Manipur qualifies for PMGSY: Th Biswajit

Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh announced that the State has qualified for PMGSY-II and 325 kms of road will be upgraded to the width of 5.5m.He was speaking at the inauguration of the bailey bridge (170 ft) built over Kanto River, Yumnam Khunou to Sinam Kom Road, National Highway-150 to Naranseinya Maning Road, Wangjing to Heirok Part I and II Road and Pallel to Mantak Road, which was held at Kanto today.
The inauguration was organised by Principal Secretary Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Manipur, as a part of 'Inauguration Fortnight' to commemorate the one year anniversary of the BJP led Government in the State.
The Minister maintained that a bridge is an important factor for development, unity and harmony between two villages.
Qualifying for PMSGY II is a great achievement of the Department and the Department has been able to meet the target of constructing around 463 km of roads (at the rate of 5-6 km per day), the Minister said and pointed out that by March 31, the Department will be able to achieve 700 km.
Last year, excessive rains hampered Stage II works, he added.
He continued that PMGSY II will be implemented in the State after the expiration of PMGSY-I in March 2019 and all the rural roads will be upgraded or expanded.
The Minister asserted that PMGSY-III will be announced soon to bring rural roads on par with the highways standard.
He also stated that good road connectivity for transporting the goods is necessary for an industrialised State and the Government is committed to provide water, power, good connectivity etc for the people.
He also encouraged engineer to work in coordination with the contractors.
Construction materials like bitumen are imported and the Government is planning for a stockist in the State to provide imported raw materials to the contractors for better quality works.
The Minister also said that proposal for LWE (Left Wing Extremism) areas is under preparation and expressed belief that the Central Government would agree to the proposal.
There will be 104 roads of 1200 km length which will cover 217 habitation as part of the effort to bring balanced development in the State.
The bailey bridge (170 feet) over Kanto River on the road of Sekmai to Khurkhul Awang Leikai road, is constructed with an expenditure of Rs 2.05 crore.
The Yumnam Khunou road to Sinam Kom road in Imphal East is constructed with an expenditure of Rs 1.15 crore, the road NH-150 to Naranseinya Maning in Bishnupur district is constructed with an expenditure of Rs 2.17 crore, Wangjing to Heirok Part-I and II in Thoubal district is constructed with an expenditure of Rs 1.86 crore and the Pallel to Mantak road under Thoubal district is constructed with an expenditure of Rs 5.43 crore.
Local clubs and organisations of Kanto submitted memorandum to the Minister and the Minister gave assurance that black topping of Pheidinga to Leimakhong road will be done as soon as possible.
He also informed that he will consult with the Chief Minister regarding other demands as well.
Moirang A/C MLA, P Saratchandra, Kakching A/C MLA, Y Surchandra, Sekmai A/C MLA, H Dingo, Principal Secretary of RD &PR, MH Khan and officials of RD & PR Depart among others, were also present at the event.
