Ex-MLA and former Law Secretary L Ibomcha has urged the State Government to apprise the Ministry of Home Affairs to settle the matter relating to Kabaw Valley once and for all.
Even today, people of Manipur claim the Kabaw Valley as part and parcel of Manipur arid they want to know its status, according to a press release issued by the ex-MLA.
It is said that by an agreement signed in 1834, the Kabaw Valley was given over to the Burmese (now Myanmar) by the British on the condition of payment of monthly stipend of 500 sica rupees to the then Maharaja of Manipur effective from September 1, 1834 .
The payment will cease if the land is reverted back to Manipur.
In the light of the Annual Report (2017-18) of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India made by the Government of India that Kabaw Valley in Manipur (35 Km) is one undemarcated portion along Indo-Myanmar border, the State Government should take up the matter relating to the status of the Kabaw Valley with the Government of India without delay, urged the former Law Secretary.
