Imphal, January 09 2018: The State Platform of Disabled People's Organisation, Manipur, has alleged that the State's Social Welfare Department has failed to take up proper steps to empower the persons with disabilities living in Manipur.

Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, the organisations's president Md Yunus said that the Social Welfare Department failed to sanction the funds for the financial year 2016-17 to the NGOs for the necessary grant in aid, scholarships, unemployment allowance as well as financial assistance to provided to people with disabilities.

He pointed out that official processes are currently underway for the financial year 2017-18 but it is uncertain if the situation will improve or turn out like the previous year.

Md Yunus explained that during 2015-16, some person with disability were selected for various financial assistance under KVIB, KVIC and DIC but they were all made to register again for the year 2016-17 .

He also appealed to the Chief Minister to take up necessary actions regarding the 18 points memo submitted by the organisation on International Disabled Day, December 3 (2017) .
