9th Sirarakhong Hathei (Chilli) Phanit concludes

Ukhrul, August 31 2018:
The three day festival of the 9th Hathei Phanit, Sirarakhong concluded today.
The festival held under the theme celebrating the God's Gift "Hathei" at Sirarakhong Village, Ukhrul was organized by the Sirarakhong Hathei Phanit Promotion Committee & Sirarakhong Villagers sponsored by NEC through EBADA Manipur, Horticulture & Soil Conservation and Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) .
Education, Labour & Employment Minister Thokchom Radheshyam, speaking as the chief guest of the closing function, said that Hathei which grows only in the Sirarakhong village is a beautiful gift of God mat signifies the village and added that every individual who have gathered here is all because of Hathei (chilli) .
He continued that the festival gave the villagers a chance to meet and connect with the people from different parts of the State and from around the world as well.
Highlighting on the importance of Geo tagging, Project Director MOMA, K Debadutta Sharma informed that the initiative of Geotagging the Hathei (chilli) has already been taken up by the Department of Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Manipur while adding once the geotagging is completed, information related to Hathei will be available in the internet mentioning Hathei's originating place, Sirarakhong as geographical indication.
The valedictory function was attended by dignitaries, village headman, farmers and locals.
