Ministry approves two industrial estates

Imphal, June 20 2013: The Ministry of Small and Micro Enterprises has approved esta-blishment of two industrial estates at Thoubal and Bishnu-pur.

Reliance company has surveyed Jiribam bamboo chipping plant and it would be privatised soon.

While discussing a demand for Commerce and Industries Department today in the State Assembly, Commerce and Industries Minister K Govindas stated that the Ministry gave its approval on June 14 for upgradation of Takyel industrial estate and establishment of two new industrial estates at Thoubal and Bishnupur.

Informing the House that the State did not seek any fund from the Ministry during the past 20 years, Govindas stated that the Industrial Development Bank of India would be releasing for the State.

The Ministry has also agreed in principle to set up industrial estates in Ukhrul, Chandel and Churachandpur.

Saying that Manipur ranks third in handloom industry, Govindas informed that handloom production units would be given grants of Rs 3 lakhs to 5 lakhs each.

The State Government has drawn up a plan to build warehouses at Jiribam, Imphal and Moreh.

Tulihal Airport which is set to become an international airport from next month has a section of cargo terminus and the Government is considering on who would be assign the task of handling the terminus.

MLA K Thamarjit said that the Government may seek fund from World Bank and other financial institutions if it is facing fund paucity.

At this, the Chief Minister stated that Rs 150 crores including Rs 50 crores for Industries Department have been set aside.

Stating that Rs 50 crores is already there, the Chief Minister stated he would give rewards if any House Member can obtain major project from World Bank.

The State Government earlier sought a loan of Rs 2000 crores from NEDFi but the proposal was turned down by the Centre, Ibobi informed the House.

Dr I Ibohalbi and Samuel Risom also took part in the demand discussion.

Two demands amounting to Rs 9210,99,000 (Commerce and Industries) and Rs 91,36,94000 (Sericulture) were later passed by the State Assembly.
