International Literacy Day was celebrated at Samaritan Public School in Senapati district today under the theme, "Education for all" organised by the District Literacy Mission (DLM) Authority, Senapati.
The event was graced by PP Ronald, ADC/ADM/Chairman, DLM, Senapati district as the chief guest, N Benjamin Tao, President, Good Samaritan Foundation, Senapati as the president and Pf Lophro, SDC, HQ as the guest of honour.
Pf Lophro, SDC, HQ in her speech urged all to spread the message that every child in India needs to be educated to enhance the education system which is the backbone of the society.

Under the New India Literacy program, education is no longer concentrated up to the age of 14 years but the policy is targeted from 15 � 35 years of age which shows the importance of education in every part of the world, she added.
Delivering the presidential speech, N Benjamin Tao highlighted the responsibility of civil society organizations (CSOs) and NGOs to raise awareness on the importance of education.
Speaking as the chief guest, PP Ronald stated that the New India Literacy program is a centrally sponsored scheme (which was earlier called as Adult Education) sanctioned by the Ministry of Education, Govt of India for implementation during FY 2022-2027 in alignment with National Education Policy, 2020 .
He also highlighted the objectives of the program which are to impart foundational literacy and numeracy, to impart critical life skills to learners, to impart basic education to learners, to impart vocational skills to learners and to impart continuing education to learners.
The Adult Education Department/State Literacy Mission Authority, Manipur is implementing the New India Literacy Program at the State level through District Literacy Mission Authorities.
For the first phase, the program will be implemented in five districts namely Bishnupur, Chandel, Senapati, Tamenglong and Thoubal districts and will be implemented in the remaining districts subsequently.
The program is stated to be implemented hand in hand with PRI functionaries, village authorities, NGOs, religious leaders, local clubs, women organizations, etc, he added.
The program was attended by representatives from the Election department, ICDS, ADC teachers, village authorities, ZEO staff, DIET, NYK and staff of Samaritan Public School.
