ZUF denounces NSCN-IM atrocities, urges public to uphold truth and unity
Source: The Sangai Express

Noney, July 30 2025: The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) has appealed to the public not to be misled by provocative narratives circulating on social media and urged all to promote truth, peace, and unity.

In a strongly worded press release issued today, the Zelianrong United Front (ZUF) reiterated its commitment to defending the rights, identity, and common cause of the Zeliangrong kindred people.

Expressing serious concern over continued atrocities and targeted violence allegedly committed by the NSCN-IM, the Front called for justice, accountability, and respect for due process.

The ZUF stated that despite repeated efforts to build peace and mutual understanding with the Naga revolutionary group NSCN-IM, their goodwill has been perceived as weakness, resulting in the suppression of their rights and movement The statement also sought to ''set the record straight" on the threads faced by the community.

The released recalled several harrowing instances of alleged extrajudicial killings, torture, and human rights abuses committed against Zeliangrong youths, cadres, and civilians by NSCN-IM and its affiliated units.

Among the cited cases were the killings of Captain Alan of Phalong Village; Captain Akhuam of Ritiang Village; Angaipou Gangmei of Dailong Village; Private Muanjang Pamei of Bamgaijang Village; Private Chingjuan Balang of Kabui Khullen; rape and murder of Lunglailu Gangmei of Reangjan (Reangzang) Village in Bangladesh and Mizoram border in 2004; killing of trainees at NP Battalion (Bunning).

The brutal killing of Athuan Abonmai.

former president of the Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN), in 2021 and Pouluathui Maringmei, a complete blind and elderly civilian who was shot dead in in his own house for being named among as NNC, was also highlighted as a stark example of the inhumane treatment faced by the community.

In addition, the statement raised alarm over the recent mysterious disappearance of Capt Jiandai Kamei of Ruangdai Village serving in the Wung Tangkhul Region.

The ZUF stressed that the truth behind such incidents must be revealed without further delay and those responsible held accountable under the laws of the land.

Expressing deep concern over the growing insecurity and uncertainty within the ranks of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN)-IM, the ZUF said that over the years, numerous Zeliangrong cadres and leaders have endured harsh and unjust treatment, inducing physical and mental torture, false allegations, and unjust executions - often without any transparent or credible investigations.

"These actions reflect a deliberate pattern of targeted persecution, which has created an atmosphere of fear, mistrust, and alienation among Zeliangrong cadres, the ZUF said, adding that serious questions now loomed over the safety and dignity of Zeliangrong members under the NSCN-IM organisation.

Criticising the ideology outlook of NSCN-IM, the ZUF stated that its version of Naga socialism resembles an authoritarian rule, enforced by arms and dominated by a majority mindset.

This, they claim, has only worsened internal divisions among Naga communities, with the Zeliangrong people bearing the brunt through repeated losses, discrimination, and targeted violence.

While acknowledging the painfill realities of the region's political history, the ZUF stressed that corrective steps must be taken to prevent further discord.

The statement urged the withdrawal of all offensive confrontations of NSCN-IM against the Nagas and the Zeliangrong people in particular and warned that failure to do so may lead to renewed confrontations within Naga society.
