PM to lay foundation stone of NSU in March

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the National Sports University and launch flying dispensary during his visit for the inauguration of Indian Science Congress in Imphal from March 16 to 20.Speaking to media persons at Raj Bhavan today, the Governor said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be inaugurating the Indian Science Congress (ISC) in Imphal which will be held from March 16 to 20 and added that on his arrival here he will lay the foundation stone of the National Sports University.
The Governor further said that she has been associated with Science Congress since a long time back.
Eminent scientists will visit Manipur to observe the biodiversity and to carry out more research work regarding natural resources.
A huge number of delegates and scientists will visit the State during the science congress, the Governor said.
Besides, Nobel laureates are expected to attend the Congress as well.
On the recently introduced direct flight from Delhi to Imphal and vice versa, the Governor said that this came about after she requested the Ministry of Civil Aviation to introduce the same.
The Union Minister of Civil Aviation made the announcement during last year's Sangai Festival in Imphal.
Finally, Air India introduced Delhi-Imphal direct flight service from January 2 considering the public demand.
There will be two flights in a week, one on Sunday and another on Tuesday as of now.
She said that she took the flight from Delhi to Imphal today and it took only two and half an hour.
"Direct flight has brought Manipur closer to Delhi by reducing the flying time.
We should have more direct flight from other States specially from Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai as well so that more tourists will come to Manipur thus promoting tourism in the State," the Governor added.
She opined that other airlines will also introduce more direct flight from other States to Imphal in due course of time.
The Governor also said that she is working on a project to introduce flying dispensaries.
If the project is started, people living in far flung areas will be immensely benefited, she said adding that the authority has chosen Imphal and Guwahati to have flying dispensaries.
Livelihood mission will start shortly in Manipur.
The youth of the State, who are good entrepreneurs, should be trained properly.
Culture Ministry of Sankritan is a tangible art which been accepted by UNESCO in 2013.A lecture in connection with Sankritan will be organised at the earliest, she said.
On Loktak lake, the Governor said that after the lake is first cleaned, a lot of projects/ activities can be taken up like water skating, boat race, para sailing etc.
She also stated that she will appeal to the Ministry concerned to provide funds under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan for the treatment of three major riven of the State which flow into Loktak Lake, so as to keep the lake water clean.
