Imphal, March 18 2011:
Kuki Chiefs' Association, Moreh Block has strongly condemned the initiative of the State and Central Government of implementing Manipur Village Authorities Hill Areas (Amendment) Act 2011 in the hill districts of Manipur.
Maintaining that the Act has abolished the Kuki chieftianship, the association warned that it would launch democratic forms of agitation if the Government tries to forcibly implement the Act.
In a press release, the association asked why the State and Central Government is trying to abolish the chieftianship from Kuki society.
Asking whether Kukis are not the citizens of India the association questioned if the Government has the right to appoint a chief in a Kuki village.
