Awareness prog on handlooms, handicrafts delivery scheme held

A one day awareness programme on Handlooms and Handicrafts delivery scheme and MUDRA scheme was organised by the District Handlooms and Textile office under the aegis of the Directorate of Handlooms and Textiles, Manipur at Indoor Stadium, Senapati today .
Speaking as the chief guest, K Holison Rongmei, Deputy Chairman & in-charge of Town Planning, ADC, Senapati said that weavers are also entrepreneurs and should think of different designs to attract more buyers.
He pitched for maximum use of cotton and silk yarns .
He further said that unlike other products there is no dread of market for handloom products and one should take advantage of the schemes provided by the banks and the Government agencies, and also develop banking habits and habit of repaying bank loans in time.
He also opined that all ladies should learn weaving so that they can earn more in order to have a good standard of living .
Giving his presidential speech, N Nilabantajit Singh, Project Manager (Handloom) District Handlooms & Textile, Senapati said that handlooms and handicrafts delivery scheme is first of its kind not only in the State but in the whole of North East India .
Speaking about MUDRA scheme, he urged the weavers to abstain from taking loans as far as possible as interest never sleeps, and suggested that weavers take loan only in time of dire needs .
Giving his key note address, Bhubon Singh, Board Director, Manipur Apex H/L weaver & H/C Artisans, CS Ltd Imphal said that till now 4322 primary handloom weavers' societies have been registered.
And under the National Handloom Development Programme, Manipur Handloom & Handicraft Development agency is implementing the Handloom and Handicrafts Delivery schemes under which raw materials are being delivered at the door step and also the finished products will be bought back by the agency under this scheme .
Z Tholi Paul, Lead District Manager, SBI, LBO Senapati, Y Shantikumar Singh, Asst Manager Commerce, NHDC, Imphal and M Ibohal Singh, Asst Director Weaving, WSC, Imphal were the resource persons of today's awareness programme.
