Myanmarese Meitei shares excitement

Imphal, February 05 2016 : "Tears rolled down my cheek with happiness and excitement when I arrived Manipur, the birthplace of my forefathers", said 50-year-old Myanmarese Meitei Takhellambam Chanu Langlen.

She along with four of her friends came to the State to attend the 287th anniversary of Puya Meithaba on January 27.Langlen said that all of them are the residents of Mandalay Mittle.

She said that although she is also called Kamala at her home, her official Myanmarese name is Ohnmaarlay.

Langlen said that she has a rice business in Mandalay.

Saying that she bore all the travel expenses of her friends as well, she said that a Myanmarese National needs around Rs 1.5 lakh to visit Manipur.

Her father Takhellambam Basudev had expired some years back and she is living with her mother, brother and sisters, Langlen said.

Revealing her emotion, Langlen said that tears rolled down her cheeks with happiness and excitement when she arrived Manipur.

She further said that the same emotion was felt by her friends as well.

She thanked the people of Manipur for their warm hospitality and love.

Contending that her happiness knew no bounds when the trip was finalised, Langlen said that they were so excited with the thought that they would see Manipur and fellow Manipuris.

"So far, we have seen Kangla fort, Royal Palace, Loktak lake, Ima Keithel and other important places", she said.

Saying that many Meiteis are residing in Mandalay Mittle, Sagaing, Bamon Khunjao, Nithat Khong, Amara Pura, Singa, Nichisey, Kuji and Pelaw, Langlen said that she would not only contribute her mite in integrating the people living at these places but also help them in visiting Manipur.

"I was overwhelmed on seeing the all-women market � Ima Keithel.

Now I have realised how hardworking Manipuri women are", Langlen said.

Saying that Meitei women of Myanmar are also equally hardworking, Langlen said that she wants to propagate the courage of Meitei women to the world.

She said that Lai Haraoba ceremony of Ima Leimarel Shidabi is organised Mandalay Mittle in June every year.

Regarding burning of ancient Chronicles 'Puya', Langlen said that it was an unfortunate day for all the Manipuris.

She said that they have participated the 287th anniversary of Puya Meithaba and they would leave Imphal for Mandalay on February 7 .
