Lamka, June 29 2011:
The JAC of Khuga dam has today accused the State Government of concealing the reality behind the multi-crore project of Khuga dam to officials visiting the State in an act to avoid exposing the corrupt practices and sub-standard work execution.
The JAC's allegation comes amid the denial of any appointment with the NEC Secretary UK Sangma who was in town today to review the projects undertaken by the Shillong based Noth Eastern Council within the district.
"The authority concerned once again turned down the humble request made by JAC leaders to call on the visiting NEC secretary and have a crucial but brief appointment with reasons best known to them", said the JAC statement.
After total failure on the part of the State Government in completing the water supply component in the year 1994, the said component with a capacity of 5 MGD was taken up with huge funds from NEC/DoNER and SPA, but has still failed to deliver any benefits worth the name.
Taking serious note of this the JAC took the initiative to meet the visiting NEC but it was futile as they were denied the opportunity, it added.
Contending that it will continue to raise the issue, despite the deliberate efforts of the state government to snub their efforts, the JAC said, 'ignoring this issue will tantamount to digging one's own grave' .
