Imphal, July 28 2011:
A three-day long block level community programme for Irilbung block has begun from today at Panchayat Bhavan located inside the complex of Imphal East
DC office, Porompat.
Being organised under the aegis of District Project Officer, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), the inaugural function of the programme was attended by ZEO Zone-II/District Project Officer, SSA, Imphal East as chief guest, DI of Schools, ZEO Zone-II Th Thoiba as functional president and District Programme Manager, SSA, Imphal East P Ronika Devi and State Co-ordinator, Community Mobilisation Joyrina Devi as guests of honour.
Speaking at the occasion, Shamu observed that with the coming of SSA, there is no worry over admission, books, bags, uniforms, etc of the students, and even the meals are being provided free.
However, inspite of all these benefits, not many children want to attend school and the number of student enrolment in the schools has been inclining.
We have to find out the reason behind this.
Apart from normal education, he suggested that a weekly co-curriculum activities, one day social service period in a month have to be arranged by the teachers.
Expressing concern over the declining moral and discipline among the students today, Shamu said that the teachers should also inculcate moral and discipline among the students before anything else.
Infrastructure can be mended/repaired in one or two days, but human resources need to be developed slowly from the grassroots level onwards, he pointed out.
He also appealed to all the community members, local educationists, teachers and guardians to keep their minds open and send their wards/children to Government schools and enjoy the benefit being provided by the Government.
In his presidential address, Th Thoiba informed that there are now 27 EGS centres in Imphal East, and 35 disabled students are given Rs 1500 as sport allowances.
He explained that the main aim of SSA is to educate and make each and every citizens to be literate.
