The Transport Department has warned that it will suspend and even cancel the permits issued to the public transport vehicles like buses, taxies, autorickshaws, magics and wingers etc, if they fail to operate and serve the public as a result of the 48 hours general strike called from today midnight.
An order issued by the Commissioner (Transport) cum Chairman of State Transport' Authority today mentioned that route permits have been issued by the State Transport Authority under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 for operation of public transport system in the State by the aforementioned vehicles category under the stage carriages and contact carriage permits.
As such, if the said public vehicles fail to operate and deprive the public of the transportation facility during the general strike period, the STA will take up stringent actions including suspension and even cancellation of the permits, it warned.
It then instructed all public transport system operators of the State to adhere to the public transport obligations and to maintain transport operations during the period of the general strike.
