Two day seminar stresses on Kanhailal's work

A two day seminar on 'Kanhailal: A theoretical practitioner' was organised by Kalakshetra Manipur Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre Kolkata and Department of Art and Culture, GoM at Government Dance College hall, Palace Compound today.
Theatre Mirror Imphal Director Padmashri Wareppa Naba graced the function as the chief guest while Manipur Sahitya Parishad president Professor IS Kangjam attended as the moderator.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Wareppa Naba said that the two day seminar is a part of the golden jubilee celebration of Kalakshetra Manipur.
The seminar will be significant to many people as it will shed light on Kanhailal's work and his journey as a theatre personality, he said while adding that it would also make the young generation aware about the famous plays and his dedication in the field of art and culture.
Papers were presented by Yumnam Rajendra on "Kanhailal and Sabitri's journey in theatre", Professor N Tombi read on 'Kanhailal's standing in the history of Indian theatre' and Dr L Gojendro on 'Kanhailal's response to extant texts in the theatre'.
Kanhailal is perhaps best known for his adaptation of Mahasweta Devi's Bengali short story Draupadi, which he staged in Imphal in April 2000 .
