Myanmarese couple held with fake Aadhaar cards

Manipur Police Commando apprehended a Myanmarese couple with fraudulent Aadhaar cards from Phayeng Kharang Khunou under Imphal West district along with a local man accused of harbouring the Myanmar Nationals.
This was informed by Dr Sapam Ranjan, Health & Family Welfare Minister during a press conference held at his office chamber located at Babupara today.
The Minister shared that the two Myanmar citizens hailing from Sagaing Region, Myanmar have been identified as Limdai Merr (33) alias Thongkhosei Hangsong, s/o Limpoiline, his wife Veikhohat Hatnu (29) and the man harbouring them as Angom Chinglen (34), s/o Angom Ningthem Singh from Phayeng Kharang Khunou.
Elaborating on the incident, Dr Sapam Ranjan stated that Manipur Police Commando conducted a search operation at the residence of Angom Chinglen at Phayeng Kharang Khunou based on an intelligence report received on March 9 and apprehended the three individuals around 9.40 am of the same day.
Based on a preliminary examination of the arrested persons, it was found that the two Myanmarese citizens had been staying at the residence of Angom Ching-len since March 6 without any legal documents.
The Minister said that as per police interrogation, Limdai Merr resided in Nagaland since 2008 and studied Theology for two years at Amazing Grace College, Dimapur and for another three years at Nagaland Theological College.
He returned to Myanmar in May, 2017 and married Veikhohat Hatnu in November 2022 .
The couple made their way into India from Shera village, Sagaing Region, Myanmar to Avakhong village, Kiphire district Nagaland in January of this year.
They stayed at the residence of Limdai Merr's grand uncle, Zion Merr, located in Mimi village, Kiphire district for about a month.
Reportedly, Veikhohat Hatnu's fraudulent Aadhar card was made during this period with the help of Zion Merr.
Following this, on February 9, Angom Chinglen brought the couple to Manipur from Dimapur, the Minister shared.
Notably, Limdai Merr came to know Angom Chinglen through Facebook in 2022 .
Angom Chinglen, who was working as a Christian missionary under the Berean Multiplying Movement since 2015 instructed Limdai Merr to learn the Bible at his house with scholarship assistance from the Berean Multiplying Movement and to eventually become a member of the Mission after a year.
Dr Sapam Rajan further shared that Angom Chinglen receives monthly remuneration for ensuring that these Myanmar Nationals learn the Bible.
A case has been filed against the three arrested persons and necessary legal action under the Foreigners Act and relevant sections of the IPC have been initiated.
The three have also been remanded into police custody for a period of six days till March 14 .
In this regard, the Minister strongly appealed against illegally harbouring foreign Nationals for religious, cultural or any other reasons.
He added that individuals found guilty of such crimes will be duly punished as per the law.
He further assured that the State Government is keeping a strict vigil on the influx of illegal immigrants in Manipur and urged the public to promptly inform the police if they come across such unlawful activities.
It may be noted that Ningshen Worngam, DIG (Intelligence), Manipur Police and Ksh Shivakanta, SP, Imphal West were also present at today's press conference.
