Imphal, May 11 2012:
Maintaining that people of Manipur are currently facing the ill effects of 'black laws' like AFSPA, CPI, Manipur State Council Secretary, Dr M Nara has opposed setting up of National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) in the State.
Speaking to reporters at Irawat Bhavan today, Dr Nara said that CPI had opposed the proposal of instituting the centre during UPA Government in the Centre as well.
The party would oppose tooth and nail against the fresh proposal although a meeting of Chief Ministers of different States has already been convened in connection with instituting of NCTC in New Delhi, he said.
Responding to a query on the demand of a separate Kuki State, Dr Nara pointed out that the electoral system enforced during British rule is still adopted in the country.
The system gives the notion of alienation to different communities, Dr Nara opined that the outdated electoral system must be reformed.
Responding to another querry, Dr Nara said that it is not reasonable to set up the posts of Cabinet Secretaries in financially weak States like Manipur.
The State Government must not appease the MLAs who could not get Cabinet berth at the cost of development of the State.
Regarding the death of Richard Loitam, Dr Nara said that he had deliberated the issue with the Chief Minister of Karnataka during a meeting on May 7 .
He also handed over a memorandum of Richard's father, Loitam Rajesh Kumar to the Chief Minister of Karnataka.
Dr Nara also informed that he urged the Chief Minister to hand over the case to CBI terming the incident as a murder case.
The Chief Minister also assured him to take up necessary action regarding the incident, Dr Nara added.
