Kangpokpi, April 05 2016 :
The All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union today has appealed the Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed against the brutal murder of Pampha Rai to relax Thadou festival goers during its 24 hrs bandh along National Highway 2 .
Heeding the call to relax the bandh for festival goers, the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Pampha Rai has announced that free passage will be given to the delegates of the Thadou Cultural Festival to be held from April 6 to 8 at Ngahmun village.
Moreover emergency services like medical, fire and water supply will be exempted from the purview of the bandh, said the JAC in a statement.
The students' union said that Thadou Cultural Festival which will begin tomorrow at Ngahmun village under Kangpokpi AC in Sadar Hills is an international festival for the Thadou community where thousands of people across the State and outside are expected to attend.
AMGSU general secretary, LB Adhikari said that the students' union is very much serious and concerned over the issue of Pampha Rai and added "we also consider the importance of the international festival of Thadou community so as to sustain mutual respect and understanding" .
Therefore, "we appeal the JAC to relax the festival goers during the 24 hrs bandh and allow them free passage for the festival" said LB Adhikari while adding that the student body will devotedly work together with JAC in bringing justice to the victim.
In the meantime, AMGSU also condemned the alleged picture of Pampha Rai's nude dead body in social media like Facebook and Whatsaap which has gone viral and urged the crime branch to investigate the matter.
"It is unfortunate that the nude dead body of our sister has been exposed everywhere in social media", asserted LB Adhikari before adding that circulating such objectionable photos can affect the dignity of the deceased and her family members.
"We urge the crime branch to investigate the matter and instantaneously stop the circulation of the picture to save the dignity and honour of the deceased and her family members as well as the Gorkha community" said LB Adhikari.
It may be mentioned that, the committee of Thadou Cultural Festival had earlier appealed not to call any bandh, blockade, strike, etc during the festival which will kick off tomorrow at Ngahmun village in Sadar Hills.
