Suzuki Satoshi, Ambassador of Japan to India, has flagged off a project christened Project for Provision of Eye Medical Equipment at Shija Hospital by signing a Grant Contract Paper for assistance of USD 65,225, yesterday A press release issued by Suresh Thokchom assistant secretary of Shija Foundation said that Shija Eye Care Foundation (SECF) applied for Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) for the enhancement of eye care facility in the region with special emphasis on Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy and other vitreoretinal diseases.
GGP is a financial assistance scheme of the Government of Japan offering to develop countries for development projects designed to meet diverse basic human needs.
The project has been considered by GGP to reduce the burden of blindness and low vision due to Diabetic Retinopathy and other vitreoretinal diseases and Glaucoma in the underserved population of Manipur.
The grant amount shall be utilized to procure high-end eye health care equipment and beneficiaries shall no longer need to go outside the State to avail such a service anymore and shall have better eye healthcare at the doorstep, he added.
