Imphal, March 31 2021:
Amid the 'heated' land dispute between Andro and Sandangsenba Maring, at least 7 houses at Sandangsenba Maring village were torched by unknown miscreants on Monday.
It is reported that the State police were deployed at the area at the time of the incident to avoid confrontation.
Apart from reducing the 7 houses to ashes, a forest fire was also started reportedly at the surrounding areas of Sandangsenba Maring and the people of this affected village are charging the locals of Andro for the alleged arson.
Village secretary of Sandangsenba Maring, KS Andun said that letting the miscreants torch the 7 houses in broad daylight and in the presence of the State police in the village is truly unfortunate.
He then urged the Government to intervene and find an amicable solution at the earliest.
The State Government, on the other hand, has started probing the fire/firing incident by constituting a fact finding committee.
In a notification issued on March 30, 2021, Commissioner of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Nidhi Kesarwani informed all concerned who is desirous of submitting documents/evidence on the circumstances leading to the fire/firing incident, to do so, at Room no 210 of Manipur Secretariat South Block between 10 am and 12 noon on all working days on or before April 5, 2021.It may be mentioned that Chief Minister N Biren Singh had listened to people of both Andro and Sandangsenba Maring during a meeting convened on March 29 .
During the meeting, the CM had assured of constituting a committee to conduct an inquiry into the dispute with DGP and DCs, SPs concerned and forest officials as members.
It may also be mentioned here that chief of Andro Chingakham Gandhar Meitei had asked the people of Sandangsenba Maring to remove the corpse allegedly buried at Chaphu Uppi Umang at Andro on March 13 within a day or two and the village authority of Sandangsenba Maring had responded that the land where the body was buried belongs to them.
