Imphal, November 01: To ease traffic volume along the National Highway-39 while passing through Imphal city, the State Government is planning and making necessary arrangement for a by-pass route from Koirengei to Lilong, MPP MLA Dr Ng Bijoy has disclosed.

Speaking at a reception function hosted in honour of the newly elected Panchayat members of Khurai Assembly Constituency at his own residence today, the MLA informed that the alternative route would pass through Imphal East district after diverting from near Public School at Koirengei to connect Lilong via Top Dusra.

The step has been taken up by the Government to ease traffic congestion in Imphal city in view of ever increasing population and vehicular traffic, the MLA said, adding that the new arrangement would help in further development of Imphal East district.

Efforts are also being made by the Government to expand the Municipality and Greater Imphal area with necessary funding from the Union Ministry of Urban Development and the people of Khurai A/C are expected to benefit the most from such expansion, Dr Bijoy said.

The MLA advised the newly elected members and Pradhans of Gram Panchayat and Zilla Parishad to work together and consult among themselves for developmental works and added that there should be no worry on the fund for development.

While informing that a new Old Age Pension Scheme is going to be introduced very soon, the MLA appealed to the people for co-operation in taking up developmental works.

The reception function was organised by Development Committee of Khurai Assembly Constituency.
