Major boosts for inland waterway plans

In addition to the steps being taken up for development of three Inland waterway routes through Loktak lake, Deputy General Manager of Rail India Technical Evaluation Services (RITES) AN Mishra has today conducted a survey on other possible routes that can be developed on the lake.
In continuation of the efforts, the RITES official is scheduled to visit Barak river to conduct a similar survey tomorrow.
During the survey today, Director of Transport BK Sharma, Deputy Director Transport Sivadas, EE of Loktak Development Authority and other officials extended support and co-operation from the side of the State Government.
The joint official team surveyed the surrounding areas of Loktak lake since early morning today to identify sites where possible routes of Inland waterway could be developed.
The survey covered areas like Toubul, Ningthoukhong and Thanga under Bishnupur district and Komlakhong under Thoubal district.

The joint survey team also discussed issues related to clearance of floating bio-masses of Loktak from along the routes which could feasibly be developed as new routes for Inland waterways and preparation of a DPR for submission to the Inland Waterway Authority of India for necessary action in this regard.
The official team would be visiting Barak river tomorrow to conduct similar survey for development of Inland waterway routes along the river.
It may be noted here that Larson and Turbo Private Limited had already conducted a hydrology survey along Barak river.
