Imphal, April 10 2016:
United Revolutionary Front (Chingkheinganba group) has rejected the allegations levelled by Napet Palli villagers against them.
A mob attacked a designated camp of URF located at Napet Palli on April 8 night on the charge of disturbing a Thabal Chongba programme.
Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club, URF (Chingkheinganba) general secretary Diamond claimed that the April 8 incident did not have any connection with the Thabal Chongba programme organised by the girls and women of Napet Palli.
At around 8.30 the same night, three youths from Napet Palli Achombam Amarjeet alias Awang Nanao, Khumbongmayum Nganba and Ngairangbam Eshi came in a Hyundai i10 car and flashed the head light of the car on the sentry post of the designated camp.
As such, some cadres went out from the camp and engaged in a heated argument with the three youths, Diamond said.
Saying that some locals also came there after hearing the altercation, Diamond said that their leader Chingkheinganba went out from the camp to talk with the locals and resolve the matter.
However, Chingkheinganba was injured as the locals manhandled him, he said.
After some time, both the parties returned to their respective places and the URF cadres thought that the matter was resolved.
However, at around 10 pm, a large number of Napet Palli locals not only pelted stones at the camp but also set the vehicles parked inside the camp on fire.
He said that two URF cadres and one woman were injured in the mob attack.
Diamond identified the injured persons as Thiyam Robin alias Kumar of Taobungkhok, Konthoujam Nabachandra alias Tolo of Churachandpur and Maibam (N) Konjengbam (O) Anju of Napet Pali.
He said that Thiyam Robin is undergoing treatment at the hospital after he suffered injury on his right eye.
He said that they fired four rounds in the air to protect themselves from the violent locals.
Diamond further said that the ground, where the Thabal Chongba programme was held, was constructed by URF cadres and they never prevented Napet villagers from organising Thabal Chongba there.
He also stated that after the signing of an MoU with Government, URF (Chingkheinganba group) had never violated the MoU ground rules.
Saying that they have been provided 12 licensed guns for their protection, Diamond said that they never went out from their camp with arms.
He also questioned why Napet villagers have not come forward for talks if they have any problem with the outfit.
The villagers should complain to the outfit if they were given disturbance by the cadres of URF (Chingkheinganba group) .
Condemning the mob attack, Diamond said that the central committee of the outfit would take up steps to take action against those those who attacked and dismantled their camp and burnt down their vehicles according to the law.
Saying that URF (Chingkheinganba group) constructed Kalika Mandap, Kalika Mandap gate and water supply plant in the village, Diamond questioned whether Napet Pali villagers would damage all these public assets if they are so eager to attack the properties of the outfit.
