Saikul units of Kuki Inpi and KSO today drew the attention of the government for early completion of the Sagolmang to Saikul road which is remained incomplete after the execution of the work commenced.
The road improvement of the section of the Imphal-Saikul road was taken up with a fund of Rs 8.5 crore earmarked under the Special Plan Assistant 2010-11.The non-completion of the improvement work has caused inconveniences to the people residing on the sides of the state highway, Kuki Inpi, Saikul branch and KSO, Saikul unit lamented.
Speaking at a press conference Kuki Inpi, Saikul president Thangkam Lupheng said that said that the first phase of the Sagolmang-Saikul road improvement work from Saikul to Ekou (three km) was completed in 2009-10 with a project cost of Rs 1.4 crore.
The work was awarded to a local contractor.
After completing the first phase, the two bodies after due consideration with the local MLA Doukhumang Khongsai has been pressing the authority for completion of the second phase before the advent of rainy season.
They also pressed the contractor to speed up the work.
The MLA even wrote a letter to the CM which a copy was also forwarded to Works minister drawing their attention to award the second phase work to the local contractors.
But Works minister dishonored the request of the local MLA and awarded the work to a contractor who is a close relative of the minister.
This has resulted in the stoppage of the road improvement work after 80% completion.
The stoppage of the work has caused inconveniences to the general public which the two bodies considered as irresponsible act and a grave injustice towards the general public.
While demanding immediate intervention of the CM, KSO Saikul unit president warned that if the road improvement is resumed at the earliest they will resort to intensified forms of agitations.
