A team of Medical Council of India (MCI) which arrived yesterday has conducted the final assessment of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) today.
On the other hand, the Health Care Organisation, Manipur today submitted a memorandum to the MCI team to give their nod to the proposal to set up the medical institute in the interest of the people, even if the ongoing preparations do not fulfil all the norms and criteria.
The team looked into the available infrastructure of JNIMS and staff strength of the departments of Biochemistry, Physiology and Anatomy which would be opened for the first session of the medical institute.
Regarding non-availability of Assistant Professors at these departments which debut in the opening session, State Govt officials apprised the visiting team that maximum efforts were being made to recruit the required strength of Assistant Professors, informed an official source.
Yet, the State officials were proud to demonstrate that necessary infrastructure have been installed.
In their earlier visit, the MCI team told State officials that infrastructure was lacking in the institute.
After the inspection tour, the MCI team prepared their assessment report in the room of JNIMS Director.
No State official was allowed to enter the room when the report was being prepared, conveyed the source.
The MCI team would be leaving Imphal tomorrow.
