Only one in race for MPP president's post

Till date, no one except interim president Nongmeikapam Sovakiran has taken or filed nomination papers for election of MPP's 14th president.
The last date and time for taking and filing nomination papers is till 3 pm of March 5 and scrutiny is already fixed at 1pm of March 7 .
Whereas polling for the MPP presidential election has been scheduled on March 14, the last date for withdrawal of nomination forms is March 8 .
According to the party's returning officer H Nabashyam, no one except interim president N Sovakiran has taken or filed nomination papers till date.
Sovakiran is being proposed by 10 members.
The tenure of an MPP president is three years.
52 year old Sovakiran is a native of Ukhongshang village located under Heirok Assembly segment.

If more candidates file nomination papers, polling would be held on March 14.MPP would also hold a conference on the same day wherein the party's new president would be announced.
During the conference, account statements of Rs 72 lakhs spent in 2011 and another Rs 46 lakhs spent in 2012 would be tabled and pushed for approval.
As per the annual budget of MPP for 2013, the expected income is Rs 32 lakhs and possible saving is Rs 12 lakhs.
The estimated expenditure for the same year is Rs 20 lakhs.
Though this budget has been approved by the party's central committee, it would be tabled and passed in the party's conference.
