In a significant move towards development of Manipuri language, the State Cabinet has given the green signal to set up Directorate of Language, Planning and Implementation.
Speaking to media person after the Cabinet meeting which was presided by Chief Minister O Ibobi, Education Minister M Okendro said that a Director not lower than the rank of and IAS officer would be appointed to the directorate which would be set up anew.
The Director would be assisted by an MPS officer and 15 employees who were working in the language cell would be absorbed and regularised against their relevant posts in the directorate.
As all the text books in Bengali script would be transcribed in Manipuri script by 2015, the State Cabinet, taking due cognizance of the huge task, decided to appoint a Director not lower than the rank of IAS officer to the Directorate.
Notably, the State Cabinet passed a resolution way back in 1996 to set up a separate directorate for Manipuri language.
The Cabinet meeting held today also agreed on creating 18 new posts for the directorate.
Another resolution of the meeting was holding combined civil service examination every year in the pattern of UPSC so as to provide jobs to educated unemployed youth, Okendro said.
In accordance to this resolution, recruitment examination for 22 MCS officers, 25 MPS officers, 28 SDCs and one election officer would be held.
Minister Okendro claimed that the new initiatives of the State Government would help in checking 'brain drain' resulting from emigration of educated professionals of the State to other States and abroad.
The Cabinet meeting further gave its consent to regularise the fast track court which is currently functioning as ad-hoc arrangement in order to deal with crimes against women and children.
Stating that teachers would not face the problem of not getting monthly salaries in time from April, Okendro informed that pending salaries for Primary Teachers, Upper Primary Teachers, Hindi Primary Teachers, Hindi Graduate Teachers recruited under SSA and Graduate Teachers recruited under RMSA would be paid by relaxing MGEL rules for three months.
The Cabinet meeting also approved the Government's earlier decision to allot 3.3 acres of land for establishment of Mary Kom boxing academy.
One final resolution of the meeting was transcription of Class IX and Class X Bengali text books into Meitei Mayek and Roman scripts.
