Imphal, July 06 2009:
The All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) has warned the State Government that they would be constrained to impose a general strike on July 11, followed by an indefinite economic blockade from the next day, if the Government does not stop the alleged flawed process of recruitment in Manipur Assembly secretariat and MSRRDA.
With regard to the recruitment of staff on contract basis in MSRRDA, the ATSUM had earlier cautioned the department concerned including the Rural Development Minister and the Chief Minister that any fall out following the attempt of the Government to go ahead with the recruitment, should be the responsibility of the State Government.
ATSUM had stated that all recruitment regarding appointment of 47 SOs, 20 LDCs, 36 RMs, 9 tracers, 18 laboratory assistants and 1 CDA must be conducted as per rules by the DRDA of the districts concerned.
Elaborating on the points on why ATSUM opposes the present recruitment in Manipur Assembly secretariat, the students organization alleged that no reservation or age relaxation was given for ST/SC and OBCs, no written tests were conducted to and OBCs, no written tests were conducted to screen the large number of candidates, the date of interview was notified to the general public through only one local newspaper and there were candidates who did not satisfy the minimum essential qualification for the post of under secretary.
The state assembly speaker is showing disrespect to the highest democratic institution of the state by ignoring its earlier notifications and memoranda, stated ATSUM, and further queried the urgency to conduct the half-hearted recruitment during the ongoing budget session.
The state government has also been diverting funds meant for the hill areas to the valley areas, alleged ATSUM which is demanded to be stopped and rectified immediately.
