Talking to mediapersons after the inspection, Minister Ranjit said that the NIT started functioning temporarily from the building of Government Polytechnics since 2009 .
After completion of the first semester, it was earlier proposed that the second semester would commence from July in the new building along with completion of the infra-structural development works.
However, as there was some delay in issuing work order and allocation of work, commencement of the session too has been delayed.
Nonetheless, now that the construction works on the class rooms, boy's hostel and girl's hostel have been completed and painting work is underway, the new session could begin from the new buildings by first week of August, the Minister assured, adding that so far nine students from outside Manipur have applied for admission for new session due to begin from August and it is expected that more would follow suit.

It may noted that Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh himself had frequently inspected the progress of the infrastructural development of NIT and grilled the officials of the Department concerned over the failure of completing the developmental works before July.
In response to question over the landslide at Maram Bazar along National Highway 39, Works Minister K Ranjit observed that incident of landslide is common during rainy season in Manipur.
But the Government has been trying its best to prevent them.
The Minister pointed out that the spot at Maram Bazar where the landslide has occurred is prone to recurrence of landslides in the past as well.
So, to ensure that it does not recur, the Government has given strong instruction to the Department concerned for taking up necessary measures.
Accordingly, along with deployment of two machines, around 20 staff of the Department are currently camping at the site for taking up repairing work.
According to information received from Maram, all the vehicles that have remained stranded on either sides for two days after more than 20 feet along the National Highway 39 have sunken near Maram Bazar have started crossing one after another from today with repairing of the road by the Departmental staff.
