Lamka, February 19 2013:
Barely four weeks after calling off its public blockade, the KSDC has again threatened to resume the public blockade with effect from mid-night of February 24 on the ground that the Government of India has failed to honour its assurance.
The blockade, according to the KSDC, was suspended on January 27 at 7 pm following assurance from the Government of India that political dialogue with KSDC and Kuki militants under SoO on the issue of Kuki State will start in the first or second week of February.
Assurance after assurance, promise after promise, made by the Government without any concrete evidence only expose their lackadaisical attitude on the aspirations of the Kukis for a separate Kuki Statehood within the parameters of the Indian Constitution, alleged the KSDC in a statement signed by S George Guite.
The statement said, 'The KSDC cannot tolerate any step-motherly treatment on the genuine demand of the Kuki people for their homeland.
Therefore, we are forced to resume the indefinite public blockade in all the Kuki inhabited areas of Manipur' .

The indefinite blockade will begin on mid-night of February 24 and will entail all vehicular movement in all roads connecting Imphal Ukhrul, Imphal Chandel, Imphal Moreh, Imphal Tamenglong, Imphal Jiribam, Imphal Senapati, Imphal Churachandpur, Imphal Leimatak Hydro Electricity Project, and Imphal IT Road.
The KSDC has further threatened to intensify the public blockade if the Government of India is still adamant on fulfilling its demand.
It nevertheless urged on all the blockade supporters to refrain from any violent activity during the said blockade but, with a caution to remain alert for any unintended eventuality.
Reiterating its stand that GoI should create a separate Kuki state within the Indian Union and nothing more-nothing less, the KSDC maintained that they want the political dialogue to start now.
"The KSDC appeals to all the Kukis around the globe, every Churches Associations, Social Organisations, Village Chieftains and people of all ages to join hands in the noble and legitimate mission for a Kuki state, which will be carried out in a fashion, which will be a firm, but non-violent mass movement," it added.
