Imphal, December 15 2011:
Saying that development work of the road from Oklong to Makuilongdi was taken up under PMGSY Phase VII Package without consulting land owners or the village authority of Oklong village even as 90 per cent of the land belongs to Oklong Village Authority, the Zeliangrong Union (ZU) has urged the Government of Manipur to conduct an enquiry into the matter immediately.
In this regard, the ZU conducted a consultative meeting with the neighbouring village of Makuilongdi village, Senapati district on October 25 last.
The meeting resolved that priority should be given to new road cutting from Ramtinglong (Oklong Khunou) to Makuilongdi village.
It further resolved that the should be executed properly according to the guidelines of PMGSY and any discrepancy on the part of the concerned authority and the work agency would be dealt with as per the indigenous Zeliangrong customary law.
According to a press release issued by the ZU, the PMGSY work was allotted to Special Contractor Sh Hungyo of Tribal Colony, Type II, No 9 Imphal.
It said that Rs 40 lakhs has been already withdrawn without executing any work.
Further, the work agency in cahoot with the concerned authority is about to withdraw the remaining amount by showing some photographs of NREGS works at Makuilongdi village from Tiizai to Makuilongdi which is only 6 Kms long whereas the distance of the road which should be developed under PMGSY is 16 Kms.
The concerned authority should consult the land owners and alignment of the road should be conducted without any delay, the ZU demanded.
