Imphal, December 14 2015:
A day after the United Naga Council (UNC) expressed its opposition to the invitation sent to Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam by AZSU (AMN) for the birth centenary celebration of Rani Gaidinliu cum Golden Jubilee at Thanagong village under Khoupum valley, the Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) has also endorsed the stance of the
apex body.
In a statement, ZYF alleged that despite the public understanding of the present social-political turmoil in Manipur, where the rights and identity of the tribals and Nagas have been compromised by certain elements including the Dy CM, the decision of the organizers to invite him to such a programme is questionable and suspicious.
The hidden policies of some few individuals by taking the name of a student body and attempting to undermine the public's sentiments and movement will not be tolerated, it said.
The ZYF will abide by the UNC's decision passed during the Naga People's Convention (NPC) in 2010 wherein the Nagas of Manipur decided to severe all political ties with Manipur Government.
Additionally, the present anti-tribal move of the 'communal Manipur Government' operating at the behest of some elected members like the Dy CM/Home Minister is openly known to the public, for which such individuals or elements cannot be allowed 'in our land' .
The ZYF therefore appealed to the body and organizing team concerned to review the invitation sent to the Deputy Chief Minister, as it would be in the best interest of the general public considering the sentiments of the tribals in general and the Nagas in particular.
