MDA seeks written assurance from HM

Imphal, November 11 2019: The Manipur Democratic Alliance has sought a written assurance from Union Home Minister Amit Shah to the effect that a solution to the Naga peace talks would not affect the integrity of Manipur in any manner.

Speaking to media persons today, MDA convenor and Shiv Sena, State unit president Moirangthem Tombi said even though the Central leaders have given verbal assurance that the Central Government would not do anything which may harm the interest of Manipur, it appears that the people of Manipur are not fully convinced.

The MDA has been demanding the Union Home Minister to give a written assurance so that people's growing fear about possible disintegration of Manipur can be effectively allayed, Tombi said.

Claiming that he had met the Union Home Minister thrice and talked about possible conflagration of violence in the State on a scale similar to the one witnessed in June 2001, Tombi said that he too was assured by the Union Home Minister that the Naga solution would not affect the integrity of Manipur.

Nonetheless, he urged the State Government to demand a written assurance from the Union Home Minister that the integrity of Manipur will remain intact.

He also urged the Central Government to take the resolutions adopted at the Manipur Legislative Assembly with regard to the integrity of Manipur into account while hammering a final solution to the Naga peace talks.

At the same time, the 60 MLAs of the State may stage a protest demonstration at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi in solidarity with the civil movements raging in Manipur, said the MDA convenor.

"Future generations will spit upon us if we let the State disintegrate.

We must unite and fight collectively to protect the integrity of Manipur at all costs", Tombi said.

If Manipur breaks apart, there would be no meaning in contesting elections or hoisting flags of political parties, Tombi said.

He then appealed to all concerned not to carry out any bomb attacks during the Sangai Festival as many people from outside the State would come to the festival.
