Imphal, August 03 2023:
The North East Students' Organisation (NESO) has asked the Central and Manipur Governments to be proactive and end the violence in the State as soon as possible.
A team of NESO officials who landed in Manipur to take stock of the ongoing violence met Chief Minister N Biren Singh at CM's Secretariat today.
During the meeting, the NESO team submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister to restore normalcy in the State.
After the meeting, NESO organised a press briefing at Manipur Press Club.
Addressing the media, NESO chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharjya said that the academic atmosphere in Manipur would be damaged beyond repair if the violence persists for a longer period.
Expressing solidarity to all the victims of the ongoing conflict in Manipur, Samujjal said that they condemn the studied silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Manipur violence.
Does the boundary of India end in Kolkata, he asked and accused the Prime Minister of alienating the people of the North East.
All the displaced folks want to return to their homes and restart their lives with whatever little they have, he added.
NESO chairman Samuel Jyrwa said that the Government needs to draw a proper and comprehensive roadmap to break the cycle of violence.
Saying that the violence in Manipur has escalated since the visit of the Union Home Minister in late May while the Prime Minister is hellbent on remaining silent, Samuel urged the Government to take up additional measures to restore normalcy in the strife torn State.
