AR foils contraband smuggling

Imphal, August 06 2023:
Troopers of Assam Rifles foiled cross border smuggling of contraband in Kamjong district on Friday.
According to PRO IGAR (S), based on credible input about transportation of contraband items, Assam Rifles established a discreet check post in general area Changa Junction where around 5 pm, a truck carrying buffaloes was intercepted.
The truck was searched and found to be carrying contraband item, the PRO informed.
As the truck was searched, documents examined and driver questioned at the Assam Rifles headquarters, it was revealed that the vehicle was illegally transporting 460 grams of brown sugar worth approximately Rs 92 lakh, in the garb of transporting buffaloes.
It was further revealed that the contraband items were smuggled across IMB through general area Humine Thana-Gamnoum-Ukhrul to Dimapur, Nagaland for further black marketing, the PRO informed, adding that, the seized items along with three individuals apprehended were handed over to Shangshak police station for further investigation.
In another release, the PRO informed that Assam Rifles recovered heroin and poppy worth Rs 5.84 crore in two different seizures at Track Junction and Khulmulen village in Chandel district on Friday and Saturday.
The drag consignment recovered from an abandoned bag and a two-wheeler have been handed over to Chakpikarong police station for further investigation.
