CCTV cameras to be made fully functional: Dy CM Gaikhangam

Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who is also in-charge of the Home Department, has assured that the State Government will take up necessary steps to make all Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras installed in Imphal area fully functional.
He was responding to a calling attention motion raised by MLA of Andro A/C Thounaojam Shyamkumar during the ongoing session of 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly on Friday.
Drawing the attention of the House, MLA Shyamkumar said that bomb blasts occur every now and then in the State despite deployment of large number of security personnel.
He highlighted the malfunctioning of CCTV cameras installed at Khwairamband Bazar and drew the attention of the State Government to provide necessary assistance to the victims of Kasom Khullen blasts.
Shyamkumar further said that the state intelligence agency has failed totally and the police personnel are actively involved in "illegal taxation" from commercial vehicles in Imphal area.
Responding to the calling attention motion, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said that the State Government will soon issue e-tender for installation of more CCTV cameras at strategic locations of the State.
He further clarified that there was no question of neglecting the victims of Kasom Khullen blasts.
The victims will be provided necessary assistances by the Government, he assured.
Gaikhangam also lauded the constable of Manipur Police who "courageously" tried to diffuse the bomb, which was planted at Masjid Road, Imphal recently.
Deputy Chief Minister also assured to take necessary action against those police personnel involved in illegal activities.
Strict action has already been initiated against 20 erring police personnel, he added.
