Police enforce curfew, penalise SOP violators

Subsequent to the government declaring curfew in seven districts in the aftermath of the alarming rise in the number of Covid-19 cases fatalities in the state, police have stepped up restrictive measures to encourage the citizens remain indoors during the curfew period.
Using public address system including megaphones, teams of police continue to urge the people to strictly follow Covid-19 SOP guidelines and not to come out of their homes without valid reasons.
Moreover, they restricted the movement of people except those who are coming out for administering vaccine, officials of government departments, health related issues and water and electricity services.
In Imphal West district, police conducted checking at North AOC, Keishampat, Kwakeithel Bazar, Khagempalli, Ningthemcha Karong, Singjamei Chingamakhong, Naoremthong, Iroisemba, Lamsang and Khoyathong among others.
The police teams, however, did not hinder movement of those exempted from the purview of the curfew but people who violated SOP guidelines were detained and fined.
Similarly, police in Imphal East district blew the siren and used loud speakers to advise the people not to loiter and carried out patrolling at Ananda crossing, Porompat, Sagolmang, Kongba Bazar, Yeingangpokpi Bazar, Heingang, Hatta and Checkon area among other places.
In Thoubal district, police conducted checking at Waithou, Thoubal Bazar, Yairipok Bazar, Wangjing Bazar, Lilong Bazar and Nongpok Sekmai Bazar.
Those who came out in violation of the curfew and the SOP guidelines were detained and fined.
With the imposition of curfew in the seven districts for ten days from May 8, Kakching district headquarters, Kakching bazar and other important markets of the district including Kakching, Pallel, Kakching Lamkhai, Wabagai Hiyanglam Lamkhai Keithel, Sugnu, Serou, Waikhong and Kakching Khunou wore a deserted look.
Shops were all closed and roads lifeless except for few government officials and others in essential services which are exempted from the purview of the curfew.
The district police too enhanced its restrictive measures.
As per the order served by State Disaster Management Authority state executive committee chairman, Kakching DM D Gangmei has declared curfew in entire Kakching district from Saturday till May 17.Meanwhile, a release issued by Manipur police department Covid-19 nodal officer staff officer to IGP (Ops) Rojit Irom informed that 307 violators were detained and Rs 95,600 collected from them as fine for violating the Covid-19 SOP.
In Imphal west district, 176 violators were detained and a fine of Rs 70,400 collected.
Four people were detained and Rs 2,800 was collected as fine in Imphal East district, 104 people were detained and imposed Rs 14,400 as fine in Thoubal district, 8 people were detained and Rs 2400 collected as fine in Kakching district, 13 were people detained and fined Rs 5,800 in Bishnupur district and in Jiribam district 2 violators were detained and Rs 800 was collected as fine, the release added.
