World TB Day observed

The State joined the world in observing the 42nd World TB Day 2023 at JNIMS today.
The World TB Day observed under the theme 'Yes, we can end TB' was jointly organised by the National TB Elimination Programme and the National Health Mission, Manipur.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan who attended the observance as chief guest called upon all the people to work towards realisation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's goal of eliminating TB from the country by 2025.In the State, TB screening is being done under the Chief Minister's Health for All.
With the advancement of technology, the mission to eradicate TB has also been progressing rapidly, Dr S Ranjan said.
People should not stigmatise TB patients and everyone need to ensure that TB patients get their medicines in time.
TB can be cured effectively, if one takes the prescribed doses of medicines regularly, he said.
He also highlighted the importance of taking nutritious diets.
"Let us all work together to eliminate TB just as we collectively overcame the Covid pandemic", the Health Minister said.
Pointing out that the State is currently passing through a water crisis, he called upon all the people to protect forests.
No life is possible without water.
If there is water scarcity, the number of diseases and medical problems would only rise, he said.
MACS Project Director H Rosita said that TB is now fully curable but it needs early detection and regular medication.
People living with HIV need to take extra care as HIV and TB are closely linked, she said.
There are 14,376 people in the State who are taking ART drugs under MACS.
If symptoms similar to those of TB are observed, one should get tested immediately, she said.
Health Services Director Dr Khoirom Sashikumar Mangang underscored the need for the public to have a clear understanding of TB and work collectively to prevent TB infections.
The Government alone cannot defeat TB.
There is a huge role for the public in eliminating TB from (he country, Dr Sashikumar said.
JNIMS Medical Superintendent Dr Kh Lokeshore too attended the observance.
Earlier, a rally of cured TB patients and invitees was flagged off by the Imphal East Chief Medical Officer from his office complex.
