Imphal, June 15 2023:
The High Court of Manipur on Thursday issued a stay order on the advertisement for appointment of managing director of MSP-DCL and MSPCL issued by the Power Department on May 22 .
The Court of acting Chief Justice MV Muralidharan admitted the writ petition (number 536 of 2023) filed by petitioners N Jashobanta Singh, S Priyananda Singh and Th Bimol Singh and issued an interim stay order on operation of the impugned advertisement and its consequential action till the next hearing on July 3.The respondents were granted time till July 3 to file an affidavit in opposition.
The petitioners argued they are presently superintending engineers in the power department and are qualified to be the managing directors of MSPDCL and MSPCL as temporary or incharge since they have been serving for the last 30 years and are 8 months due for retirement.
However, it is very unfortunate that the two organisations namely MSPDCL and MSPCL are taking up process to appoint retirees as managing directors.
Despite orders issued by the government for utilising retired staff in certain posts, the orders have been subsequently cancelled by the court, the petitioners mentioned in their affidavit and added that the court had issued interim stay orders with regard to appointment of retired persons as chief engineers of MSPDCL and MSPCL on January 5, 2023 .
