Imphal, March 14 2018:
The Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders, a partnership of the World Organisation Against Torture and FIDH, has urged the Government of India and the Government of Manipur to stop all harassment and threats to Ranjeeta Sadokpam, who was threatened and harassed by a joint team of the State police and security personnel on February 27 at around 1 am on the pretext of searching someone.
Incidentally Ranjeeta Sadokpam is a researcher with Human Rights Alert.
Such harassment at a time when the Supreme Court of India is actively pursuing the case of extra-judicial killings on the basis of a case filed by the EEVFAM is unfortunate, it added.
The Observatory has also urged the Government of India to implement the recommendations of the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders.
