Two more Kangpokpi denizens succumb to Covid

The rate of fatalities from Covid-19 in the second wave of the pandemic continues to increase in Kangpokpi district as it witnessed two more deaths on Saturday, according to the official Covid situation report.
Out of the two reported deaths, one is from Motbung area.
The victim succumbed to the virus on May 6 at CMC Hospital, Koirengei but it was reflected in the official portal only on Saturday.
According to the death report from CMC Hospital, Koirengei, the deceased woman (41) from Motbung, Kangpokpi District was brought to the hospital with complaints of shortness of breath and she later tested Covid positive.
Due to non-availability of beds, she could not be shifted to another centre and passed away on May 6 at 4.36 pm, despite the hospital's efforts to save her.
The other fatality was a 76-year-old woman from Kangpokpi town (Ward no 2).She was admitted to Kangpokpi Christian Hospital, wherein she tested positive for Covid.
She was immedi-ately shifted to District Hospital Kangpokpi on Friday evening.
At the time, her oxygen saturation reportedly went down below 70 and she later died on Saturday morning, making her the second Covid-19 victim from Kangpokpi town after the death of a 60 years old woman from Kangpokpi Ward No.4, barely two days ago.
The deceased victim was buried at Kangpokpi cemetery Saturday afternoon with strict adherence to protocols in the presence of medical officials and police personnel.
With the two deaths, the fatality toll in respect of Kangpokpi district now stands at 21, while the number of actives cases stands at 69 with 11 more positive cases and one discharged in the last 24-hours.Around 7629 people have been vaccinated with the first dose of Covishield in the district, while around 2062 people have already received the second dose.
Meanwhile, Chief Medical Officer Kangpokpi has submitted a brief report on Covid Care Centre (CCC) to the Chief Minister through DC Kangpokpi during a video conference held on Saturday.
In the report, the CMO proposed for setting up another CCC at EMRS Saparmeina, apart from the existing CCC at Leikop.
He pointed out that in the existing CCC Leikop, there are four doctors (excluding those on administrative duty) on duty and they are divided into two groups with each group consisting of 2 doctors, 6 nurses and 4 multi-tasking staffers, while one group is put on duty for one whole week (24x7) .
The CMO further stated that the intake capacity of the existing CCC Leikop is only 70 beds and proposed for upgrading it to 100 beds.
While there are only 2 B-type oxygen cylinder and only 1 D-type oxygen cylinder, the CCC requires additional 25 B-type oxygen cylinder and 25 D-type oxygen cylinders.
The centre also requires an additional 23 pulse oximeters in addition to the existing two, along with another oxygen concentrator and ventilator to bring up the total to two each.
In connection with the proposed new CCC at EMRS Saparmeina, the CMO said that the intake capacity should be at least 100 beds.
The requirements for the same includes 25 B-type oxygen cylinders, 25 D-type oxygen cylinders, 25 pulse oximeters, 5 oxygen concentrators and 5 ventilators, while the manpower requirements include 10 medical officers, 12 staff nurses, 12 multi-tasking staffers and 2 data entry operators.
The CMO also submitted a petition to the Director of Health Services for urgent indention of logistics for Covid-19 activities in respect of Kangpokpi district.
The copies of the same have also been forwarded to Kangpokpi AC MLA, PA to principal secretary (H&WF), SMD of NHM Manipur, DC/chairperson, DHS Kangpokpi, CSOs Kangpokpi, etc.
On the other hand, the total lockdown imposed in Kangpokpi town entered its second day on Saturday with all shops closed and local transport activities restricted.
