Student killed, 24 others injured in road mishap

Imphal, July 04 2014 :
A student of Evergreen Flower English School, Thoubal Ningombam was killed while 24 others sustained injuries when a van in which they were travelling met with an accident with a speeding Tata truck loaded with sand near Kanimkhong at Thoubal Leishangthem MI Road around 5.30 am on Thursday.
The deceased student has been identified as Leishangthem Sushil s/o L Surchandra of Thoubal Leishangthem Wangmataba.
He was just 8 years old.
Reports said that the Tata truck bearing registration no.MN07C/3084, which was coming from the opposite direction in full speed, hit the van while trying to cross each other.
The student was killed on the spot and 24 others including the van driver were wounded.
The injured driver identified as Thoudam Jiten (37) s/o Th Munal of Thoubal Thoudam Mayai Leikai is currently undergoing treatment at Thoubal District Hospital.
Of the remaining 23 students, 15 including eight boys and seven girls received severe injuries and they have been admitted to SHIJA Hospital for medical attention, while others have been discharged from Thoubal District Hospital after giving first aids.
The identity of the truck driver could not be ascertained till the time of filing of this report but he is said to be a resident of Yairipok Changamdabi and truck belongs to one Md Tamijur Rehman of Irong, Mayang Imphal.
