Mass cease work strike affects normal life

Coordinating Body of Trade Union Manipur on Wednesday staged a mass sit-in protest at different places of the valley districts supporting the nationwide general strike called by All Central State Trade Unions and All Industrial Federation.
Due to the general strike in the state, shops, markets, banks, post office and telecom office were paralysed.
Coordinating Body of Trade Union Manipur chairman L Sotinkumar, who was participating in the protest staged in front of the office of Manipur Electricity Employee's Union, said that a general body meeting of trade unions in India was held on May 26, 2015 and resolved to launch the cease work strike of all labourers and workers on September 2.This year, most of the farmers in the state have been suffering hardships due to the recent flood which destroyed thousands of paddy fields and fish farms.
Demanding regularization of items of Public Distribution System and checking of price influx at the same time, Sotinkumar said that demands of mass employment, regularization of labour law, social security to all the labourers, minimum wage of Rs 15000 per month for every worker, minimum pension of Rs 3000 every month per worker have also be raised by the trade unions.
Meanwhile, Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union Manipur also supported the general strike and staged sit-in protest opposite to Social Welfare Department.
Apunba Khuman Lampak Street Vendors Shop Keepers, and Auto Drivers Kanglup and All Manipur ASHA Workers Union also supported the nationwide general strike.
