MR man posing as UG thrashed

A personnel of 8 Manipur Rifles has been roughed up by locals of Nagaram, who apprehended the rogue individual trying to extort money in the name of the armed Kuki National Army.
The incident took place this morning at the residential area when the MR personnel identified as Ngamboi Gangte (39) s/o N Gangte of Khousabung village near Moirang was caught red-handed by volunteers of Nagaram Youth Club while trying to extort money from a resident.
According to the Club chairman Akhai Tangkhul there had been reports of an individual frequently demanding money from Nagaram residents in the name of an armed group.
With the residents remaining vigil to thwart such anti-social activities, the Club volunteers spotted Ngamboi Gangte entering a house to demand money and was eventually rounded up.
apart from disclosing that he was paid a certain amount by the KNA out of the collected money, Ngamboi also revealed to the locals that he had come to Nagaram in an Autorickshaw today with two other accomplices, who managed to flee.
After light punishment by the locals, Ngamboi (Rifleman No.08200065) was handed over to a team of Imphal West police station.
Ngamboi is presently posted at Laikun post of the MR battalion.
