U-Morok trader rape case Verdict likely to be passed on June 12

The verdict in the rape case of a U-Morok (chilly) trader by four men including two police personnel may be passed on June 12 .
Trial of the case has been going on in the Court of District and Sessions Judge, Manipur since September last year.
In the course of the trial, the prosecution presented its last argument today.
Speaking to media persons at Cheirap Court complex after the day's hearing was over, Special Public Prosecutor Advocate Ng Tejkumar informed that the Judge has fixed June 12 for announcing the final judgement.
He argued before the Court that all accused in rape cases can be put on trial and punished accordingly if the victims can give complete statements.
The police charge-sheet mentioned around 90 witnesses.
However, statements of only 23//24 witnesses were recorded.
Although it took some time, there was not much delay, said Advocate Tejkumar.
The four accused reportedly gang raped the 40 year old married chilly trader at an isolated place near Irom Meijrao in the intervening night of March 21 and 22 last year.
The woman was going home after disposing her merchandise in a Shaktiman truck in the company of her brother-in-law when she was abducted by the four accused from Keinou and taken to Irom Meijrao where she was gang raped.
The accused who are facing trial in the case are 1st IRB Havildar Chungkham Ibomcha alias Eigya (37) of Thongju Boroi Makhong, 1st IRB Rifleman Salam Bijen (34) of Uripok, Laikhuram Rojit (28) of Porompat JNIMS Road and Ksh Kenedy alias Dungee (37) of Kongpal Chanam Leikai.
They have been charged under IPC Sections 376 (rape), 324 (grievous hurt), 367 (abduction), 397 (robbery), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), Section 25 of Arms Act and section 3-A of the Scheduled Caste and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989 .
The Special Public Prosecutor had also yesterday informed the media that a verdict in the rape case of a student of a girls' institute in Imphal is most likely to be issued within a period of two or three months time.
