Imphal, August 21 2016:
Information Centre for Hill Areas, Manipur (ICHAM) has questioned whether uploading the new Draft Bill for the protection of indigenous people on public domain to garner the opinions of the public will be enough.
ICHAM president N Rajendro, in a press meet held at ICHAM office today said the move by the State Government will not be enough.
"A more positive outcome can be attained by calling a joint meeting of JCILPS, hill area representatives and other stakeholders," he opined.
Since the President had withheld the old Bills, Churachandpur JAC ought to wrap up their protest.
"Has the State Government not taken up the cases yet or have they failed to pay reasonable compensation to the victims' families ? Let us know what is keeping the protest going, we will extend all possible help", Rajendro stated while appealing to all to join hands and ensure that the new Bill for the protection of indigenous people is passed.
ICHAM general secretary Ngachon Ramsa said, "We have high hopes in the new Bill" .
The State Government should call a joint meeting of all stake holders to discuss the new draft Bill before it is passed in the State Assembly, he said.
