The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has banned the construction works of a power house at Thoubal Khunou after Shyama Power India Limited engineer SK Rai allegedly stopped their volunteers from verifying migrant works engaged in the same work.
JCILPS co-convenor Hayatur Rahaman Yumkhaibam said volunteers of JCILPS, its women wing and student wing along with media persons went to Thoubal Khunou where a power house is being constructed.
The team, he stated, took permission from police to carry out verification of migrant workers engaged in the construction work.
The SDPO, Thoubal also provided the necessary information regarding the construction works to the team, he stated.
On reaching the construction site, JCILPS sought permission to meet the officials of the company from the security personnel engaged at the site.
The team was then ushered in to meet Shyama Power India Limited engineer SK Rai.
SK Rai handed the team a list of workers in a simple A4 size papers.
When the team demanded to check the migrant workers, the engineer promptly denied urging the team to come back two or three days later.
The company, Rai stated, has applied for the necessary licenses and the process is yet to be completed.
Nonetheless, JCILPS has decided to ban the power house construction work until an understanding is reached between JCILPS and Shyama Power India Limited, Hayatur Rahaman stated.
Altogether 126 migrant labourers are engaged by the company for construction of the power house at Thoubal Khunou which began from December, 2015 .
