Hundreds of NE people including religious and political leaders, civil societies and Delhi local populace turned up at the memorial service of Nido Tania, the Arunachal student whose death due to severe injury after being beaten by a group of men on January 30, sparked an outcry and protest in the Capital.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, Nido Pavitra, father of Nido Tania and Congress MLA said that the memorial service is a symbolic gesture for peace and harmony in the country.
"We will continue to fight for justice," he said while stating that his son's death was due to racist attack.
Pavitra said, "I am for a new law, and I will continue to support the movement for a new anti-racism law in the country." An emotional Nido Marina (victim's mother) told the huge gathering that racial attacks should stop.
"No mother should suffer like me, who lost his son because of his looks," she said while expressing her gratitude for the huge support.
"The solidarity and support give me solace," said Marina, who felt proud for his son's sacrifice for a cause.
Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh and Buddhist leaders offered prayer for the soul, peace and harmony.
Sit-in protest: Student Christian Movement of India (NEI) members staged sit in protest against racial attacks on NE people in Delhi today in front of Trulock Theological Seminary, Deulahlane.
