Alert protests, public rallies continue across State

Bpr/Kak/Jiri/Tbl, November 11 2019: Raising voices that the political, economic and territorial integrity of Manipur should not be affected or compromised under any circumstances while finalising the Naga peace process, different protest demonstrations were staged under the aegis of COCOMI in different parts of Bishnupur district, today.

Following a series of protest demonstrations staged at Moirang Sub Division since November 7 in view of the looming finalisation of Naga Peace Talks and to voice that the land of Manipur is uncompromisable, several passenger service providers of the sub-division took out a vehicle rally, today.

Over 500 vehicles (Diesel Auto and Tata Iris) which provide passenger service along Moirang to Kumbi, Moirang to Santhong, Moirang to Ningthoukhong, Moirang Lamkhai to Torbung, and members of drivers' association of the sub division took part in the rally.

The rally which began from Moirang Chingei Lampak proceeded toward Moirang Keithel, Sendra Chingkhong, Moirang Khunou, Kwakta Santhong, Saiton, Phougakchao Ikhai, Moirang Lamkhai, Imphal-Churachandpur road and Ningthoukhong before culminating at the starting point.

Endorsing the stand of COCOMI, members of water tankers and suppliers associations operating in Moirang also took out an alert vehicle rally today.

Over 150 tankers took part in the rally.

The rally commenced from Phubala playground and headed towards Moirang Keithel, took a u-turn from sendra road and proceeded towards Bishnupur forest gate, from where a u-turn was taken again before culminating at Phubala.

On the other hand, members of Joint Committee on Manipur Integrity, Kumbi also took out an alert vehicle rally from Kumbi Bazar to Wangoo.

After gathering at Wangoo Bazar for a brief period, the protesters headed towards the Wangoo residence of Kumbi MLA S Bira.

However, as the MLA was not present at that particular time, his son-in-law came out and pacified the protesters by informing that the MLA has assured to work according to the aspiration of the people.

The protesters, after returning from Wangoo, staged an alert sit-in protest at Kumbi Bazar.

Similar alert sit in protest was also staged at Thinungei Keithel under the aegis of COCOMI.

Members/volunteers of Thinungei Apunba Nupi Lup, Bishnupur Block Congress Committee, Bishnupur Mahila Congress, Bishnupur Assembly Youth Congress Committee along with the students of BBR Unique School and Impetus English School took part in the protest demonstration.

Speaking to media persons, COCOMI's coordinator, Sunil Karam said "Though the Central Government has stated that there is no terms or conditions in the agreement with the Naga negotiators that will distort the territorial integrity of Manipur, keeping the agreement confidential till date has elevated the anxiety and apprehension of the people of Manipur" .

Cautioning that agitation similar to that of June 2001 will be launched again if the Central Government compromise the territory of Manipur while trying to please a particular group, he appealed the 60 MLAs to put their best efforts to save Manipur.

KAKCHING: In support of COCOMI agitation, Kakching Lamkhai Bazar Business Welfare Board in association with Joint Non Government Volunteer Organization (JNGVO) Kakching jointly organized public alert protest since 11 am to 3 pm during which all the shops in and around Kakching Lamkhai market remained close.

The protestors took their protest to street along NH 137-A and raised slogans such as territorial integrity of Manipur cannot be compromised, Chingmi-Tami are one, we want peace, Long Live Manipur etc.

JIRIBAM: Locals of Jiribam under the banner of Co-ordinating Committee Jiribam on Manipur Integrity (COCOJMI) staged a mass rally at Jiribam and stormed at the residence of Jiribam MLA at Sonapur, Jiribam demanding disclosure of Framework Agreement and final talk of NSCN-IM and GoI.

Hundreds of rallyists from different communities holding placard which read as "Our State integrity is our top most priority", "Bring Solution Not Problem", "Don't break Manipur", "Give Peace Not Piece" etc took part in the rally while chanting slogan "Long Live Manipur".

Later, the local MLA of Jiribam Md Ashab Uddin interacted with the protestors.

He said that the Home Minister of India has assured that before signing the final agreement, the matter will be discussed with the stakeholders of Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh as well as with other NE states.

He also assured the protestors that as per affirmation of Central Government, the contents of the final agreement do not have any terms that affect the interest of Manipur, however, if anything happen against the interest of Manipur, he will lead the agitation along with the support of people.

THOUBAL: Supporting the civil protest movement staged across the State to save the sanctity of Manipur integrity, students, teaching and non-teaching staffs of RUDA Academy took out an alert rally from its school campus at Thoubal Wangmataba Mathak to Thoubal Thongkhong, today.

After taking a u-turn from Thoubal Thongkhong, the demonstrators formed a human chain and chanted slogans like "Long live Manipur", "Manipur Ngamkhei Kaiba Yaroi" and Chingmee Tammee Amatani" among others.

Speaking to media persons, one of the protesters urged the Central Government to refrain from hurting the interest and integrity of Manipur while finalising the Naga peace process.
