Imphal, August 09:
United Committee Manipur (UCM) today said no MP and MLA would be allowed to go and pay floral tributes to the 18 martyrs at Kekrupat without the express permission of the people and the UCM.
It said no political figure will be allowed to gain political mileage out of the sacrifices of the martyrs and added any attempt to gain political mileage out of the peoples uprising would meet firmly and sternly.
UCM said the ashes and remains of the martyrs are still smoldering and the communal venom spewed by the Centre amongst the people of state are yet to be neutralized.
Many student leaders and other civilians are still languishing in jail, the committee said.
Taking strong exception with Speaker Dhananjoy, UCM said the suggestions offered by him to the Governor to monitor the activities of the UCM is nothing short of standing against the interest of the people.
The statement further said MLAs and MPs are now taken as pariahs amongst the people and instead of resigning gracefully they fled to New Delhi to save themselves and whatever they have done is for their own personal wellbeing and not in the interest of the state.
UCM recalled the June 18 uprising wherein political party offices, MLAs quarters, Assembly Secretariat and the Chief Ministers bungalow were reduced to ashes.
The uprising demonstrated the angst and disillusionment of the people, said UCM.
The MLAs have now started returning to Manipur and they are now beginning to try and build up their political career without any care for the people.
